With a high smoke point and wonderful buttery flavour, it's the perfect cooking or baking fat. Also great in place of butter in your Bulletproof coffee. or perfect for slathering on toast. Keto. Paleo. Gluten Free. Plastic free packaging.

Ghee is a superfood that has been used for over 5000 years as a staple of Indian cuisine and medicine. We back our ghee with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

When comparing Ghee and Butter, the former has 25% more medium- and short-chained fats than butter, and it is better as the chances of them causing cardiovascular diseases are nil.

  • Ghee does not require refrigeration because the milk proteins have been removed. But, if you're going to use a jar for more than 3 weeks, then it's best to store in the fridge to preserve the unique flavour.

A healthy source of saturated fats. Sourced only from grass-fed cows for a healthier fatty acid profile (see our infographic showing the effect of grass vs grain feeding on the quality of the resulting food.) Benefit from a favourable omega 3:6 ratio, a higher yield of butyrate. CLA's and significant levels of Vitamins A, K and E which are not available from grain-raised cattle.

99% Lactose & Casein Free. Starting with hand-crafted cultured butter, ghee is made by heating butter to evaporate the water and skimming off the milk solids that rise to the surface. The remaining clarified butter is then double strained through a fine filter colander which removes any remaining impurities and leaves us with a pure and intensely flavourful sweet and nutty ghee which is usually 99% free of potentially inflammatory lactose or casein. A true superfood, it's perfect to try for strict Paleos who want to taste something other than coconut oil. It's also a great option to try if you can't tolerate butter.

High Smoke Point. Because the milk solids have been removed, it has a high smoke point of 230 degrees - perfect for sautes, stir fries, baked goods and your Bulletproof Coffee.

Fresh and Local. Pepe's commercial kitchen is just a 10 minute drive away from us, so we are able to order in small quantities which means you're always going to be receiving ghee that was made no more than 2 weeks ago.

Long shelf life (and great for travelling) Ghee is shelf stable for at least 6 months.

    Gluten Free. Lactose Free. Keto.

Rani and Kansal showed that dietary cow ghee compared to soybean oil down-regulates the enzyme activities responsible for carcinogen activation in liver and up-regulates carcinogen detoxification activities in liver and mammary tissues -https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3510893/

Sharma et al found that the data available in the literature do not support a conclusion of harmful effects of the moderate consumption of ghee in the general population. But they did point out that factors that may be involved in the rise of cardiovascular disease include: the increased use of vegetable ghee which contains 40% trans fatty acids, psychosocial stress and altered dietary patterns. Research findings in the literature support the beneficial effects of ghee outlined in the ancient Ayurvedic texts and the therapeutic use of ghee for thousands of years in the Ayurvedic system of medicine. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22131700

In a rodent study, Kumar MV et al showed that Arachidonic acid, a key inflammatory intermediate in the process of atherosclerosis, was decreased by 65% in serum lipids when ghee was used as the sole source of fat at a 10% level, compared to controls.

A study on a rural population in India showed a significantly lower prevalence of coronary heart disease in men who consumed higher amounts of ghee. High doses of medicated ghee decreased serum cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, and cholesterol esters in psoriasis patients. There were significant improvements in the patients’ psoriasis symptoms as well. MAK-4, a herbal mixture containing ghee, increased the resistance of LDL to oxidation in hyper-lipidemic patients and had no effect on levels of serum total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, or triglycerides in these patients. Other mixtures containing ghee have shown hepato-protective effects, anticonvulsant activity, effects on enhancement of memory, and enhancement of wound healing.- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3215354/

In a 2013 study, Chinnadurai et al. reported the antioxidant and antiatherogenic properties of the high CLA enriched ghee suggesting that high CLA ghee can be used as a potential food for decreasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. CLAs are only found to be present in foods sourced from cows raised on natural grass diets.

So thats about it. It's powerful stuff that makes us feel great and perform better. Use Pepe Saya's Ghee to replace hydrogenated vegetable oils and as an alternative to coconut oil for a healthy and delicious source of essential dietary fat.

  • Mike M, Kitchen by Mike "Pepe makes products that chefs prefer to use. Why? Because they taste great. That’s the bottom line. Pepe Saya Ghee is clear and delicious, just like good clarified butter should be."

Liz Posmyk  (BizzyLizzy)"Our visit commenced with a short discussion about ghee, followed by a sensory exercise where we sniffed the aroma of three different ghee varieties. One is a supermarket standard and the smell is ordinary, as in 'meh'. The second is apparently India's finest ghee. There is a curious hint of something almost like kerosine to this one. The third smelled sweet and fresh. To my delight, Pepe said he had made it himself."

Andrew Weil "You're correct that my thinking on saturated fat has evolved. One catalyst was a scientific analysis of 21 earlier studies, which showed "no significant evidence" that saturated fat in the diet is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease."

Chris Kresser "Ghee is clarified butter, and it’s popular in Indian cooking. Because the milk solids have been removed, it’s very low in lactose and is almost entirely fat – mostly saturated. I tend to use ghee to brown meat and sautee garlic and onions when I make soups or stews, and I sometimes scramble my eggs in it."

  • Use ghee to add to or replace other oils in your diet. Start with 1 tablespoon a day and increase up to 3 tablespoons per day.

Ghee has a high smoke point of 230 degrees - works well with most herbs and spices which makes it perfect for cooking.

Try ghee instead of butter in your Bulletproof Coffee - a unique and delicious treat. Add Upgraded Chocolate Powder for the perfect creamy consistency and mocha flavour! Because it's a richer taste, you will need to use less ghee than you normally would butter.

Add a spoonful to a bowl of rice together with some pink himalayan salt for a tasty energy treat!

According to Mark Sisson, "Combining ghee with coconut oil is like having the best of both worlds. You get the nutty flavour of butter and the subtle sweetness of coconut oil to create one delicious saturated fat." Looking at the science, you get healthy fat soluble vitamins from the ghee and the all powerful MCTs from coconut oil.

Make A healthy hot chocolate -  Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee, almond and/or coconut milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, raw chocolate powder and two pitted dates. Once the dates have softened, blend and enjoy!

Adding to the flavour profile.

My first time trying Pepe Saya Ghee or any ghee for that matter and I have to say the flavour is really unique. Every time I open it I have to smell and taste a little to remind myself what it tastes like. I’m try to ditch inflammatory oils and this has been a great alternative for oil with a higher smoke point.
Will buy again.
