What This Product Is
Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are complex carbohydrates that occur naturally in human breast milk. After lactose and fats, they are the third most abundant component in human milk. Researchers have identified over 200 different HMO structures.
HMOs are not digested by human enzymes — they pass through the upper digestive tract intact and reach the colon, where they can act as prebiotics: substrates that feed certain bacterial species in the gut. Different bacteria preferentially consume different HMO structures.
SuperHMO® Prebiotic Mix contains five different HMOs, manufactured through precision fermentation. Each HMO is chemically identical (bio-identical) to its naturally-occurring counterpart in human milk, while containing no actual human milk in the product.
Regulatory status: All five HMOs in this product are individually approved by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) for use as food ingredients.
The Five HMOs in This Formula
The blend contains both neutral HMOs (2′-FL, LNT, LNnT) and acidic/sialylated HMOs (3′-SL, 6′-SL):
2′-Fucosyllactose (2′-FL)
The most abundant HMO in human breast milk, representing approximately 30% of all HMOs naturally present. A fucosylated, neutral trisaccharide composed of L-fucose, D-galactose, and D-glucose.
Lacto-N-tetraose (LNT)
One of the core neutral HMOs. A tetrasaccharide structure that is among the most abundant non-fucosylated HMOs in human milk.
Lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT)
A structural variant of LNT with a different linkage pattern between sugar units. Together with LNT, this forms the core neutral non-fucosylated HMO fraction.
3′-Sialyllactose (3′-SL)
A sialylated (acidic) HMO containing sialic acid. Part of the acidic HMO fraction of human milk.
6′-Sialyllactose (6′-SL)
Another sialylated HMO with a different linkage position than 3′-SL. Like 3′-SL, contributes to the acidic HMO fraction.
Why a Multi-HMO Blend
Human breast milk contains over 200 different HMO structures rather than a single one. This product’s five-HMO blend includes both neutral HMOs (which represent the majority of total HMO content in human milk) and acidic/sialylated HMOs (the smaller acidic fraction), reflecting the structural diversity found naturally.
Each HMO has unique structural properties that may interact differently with gut bacteria. A multi-HMO blend provides a wider range of oligosaccharide structures than a single-HMO product.

Directions for Use
Starting dose: Take 1 scoop per day for the first few days to assess individual tolerance.
Maintenance: Increase to 2 scoops per day as tolerated.

Is this product suitable for infants or children?
No. This product is formulated as an adult dietary supplement. It is not intended for use in infants, toddlers, or children. While 2′-FL and several other HMOs are approved by FSANZ for use as food ingredients in Australia — including in infant formula products — the formulation, dose, and presentation of infant-formula HMOs are different and regulated separately. Do not give this product to infants or children.
Is this product vegan?
No — the HMOs are produced through fermentation from dairy lactose, so the source is dairy-derived. The fermentation process means the final product contains no intact dairy proteins or significant amounts of lactose, but it is not classified as vegan.
How does SuperHMO compare to PureHMO?
PureHMO contains only 2′-FL (the single most abundant HMO in human milk). SuperHMO contains five different HMOs covering both the neutral and acidic HMO categories. Can I add this to coffee or hot beverages?
