In whole-food protein sources (eggs, meat, dairy, beans, grains), amino acids are bound together in protein molecules. The body breaks these molecules down during digestion to release the individual amino acids. Free-form amino acid supplements bypass this digestion step — the amino acids are already separate, ready to be absorbed.
PerfectAmino is also supplemented with nucleic acid building blocks (nucleosides and nucleotides) — the molecular components of DNA and RNA.

What are essential amino acids?
Amino acids are the molecular building blocks of protein. Of the 20 amino acids used by the human body, nine are classified as “essential” — meaning the body cannot synthesise them and must obtain them from dietary sources. The remaining 11 are non-essential, meaning the body can synthesise them from other amino acids (provided sufficient essential amino acids are available).
What does “free-form” mean?
In whole-food protein sources, amino acids are bound together in protein molecules. The body breaks these down during digestion to release the individual amino acids for absorption. Free-form amino acid supplements skip this step — the amino acids are already in their individual form.
Why is L-Histidine included?
Histidine is sometimes referred to as a “conditionally essential” amino acid — the adult body can synthesise it under most conditions, but synthesis may not be sufficient in certain population groups (infants, some elderly people, people in particular physiological states). PerfectAmino was reformulated to include L-Histidine alongside the other eight essential amino acids for broader applicability.
Where are the amino acids sourced from?
The amino acids are derived from plant sources (beans and peas). The plant material is fermented to break down the proteins, then the individual amino acids are extracted using centrifugal separation. The end product is pharmaceutical-grade crystalline free amino acids with no residual plant material, no sugars, and none of the common allergens listed above.
