I’m Steve Hord. #Biohacker for life. Whether I’m BASE jumping from Europe’s awe inspiring walls, working as a #FIFO (Fly In- Fly Out) electrician in the hot, dry and secluded Pilbara region of outback Western Australia or Wellness coaching- I demand optimal performance. Steve Hord. #FIFO #Biohacker

In 2010 I had a bout with depression and anxiety. On top of that I still had acne from my teenage years, low testosterone and elevated blood pressure, even though I was physically fit and following the standard western diet (God bless the food pyramid haha!). Although my body looked pretty good- I certainly didn’t feel it! After one particularly low evening, I decided enough was enough and took matters into my own hands. I found natural bodybuilding as my saving grace. It taught me that if you want something you have to visualise it and put all your focus and energy on it. If you do that, and your intentions are pure, you will be unstoppable in this human experience.

The consciousness manifests only what it can create.

I didn’t know what the term was back then, but that’s when I began biohacking. I developed an insatiable quest for more efficient performance whilst in the gym. I read every book and blog, tried a 1000 different nutrition protocols, listened to podcasts and spoke to as many people as I could about building lean, clean muscle.

Hacks such as intermittent fasting and eating tons of fat allowed me to stay lean all year round without even trying!

One of my favourite custom pre workout snacks is ghee, MCT oil, maca and protein powder mixed and then chilled! This was to the great dismay of my mates who continued to believe in the typical low fat and low carb dogma. Also, hacking my sleep with my Bulletproof induction mat and an iphone app allowed me to recover quicker and have more energy the next day!

I soon started applying the laws of hacking to every area of my life. Why? Simple, you just feel freakin’ good! You enter a state of flow. As Steve Kotler described in ‘The Rise of Superman’ – time dilates, senses heighten and you get fast tracked into the now! As I developed a more consistent state of high performance, life started presenting itself to me. I began resonating with things I did want. I stopped living in our western society’s illusion that you must work hard and be miserable now in order to enjoy ‘life’ at some undefined point in the future!

After bodybuilding, hacking flow eventually led me to the most amazing and inspirational people on this planet- BASE jumpers! I have shared the most incredible euphoric highs and the inevitable crushing lows with my BASE family. The greatest hack I have found for BASE jumping is Dave’s infamous Bulletproof Coffee (thankyou sir!) and daily meditation. They make up for my natural lacking ability (haha) and give me the laser like focus the sport demands! Also, I no longer have to worry about the butterflies in my stomach bumping into the dozen or so eggs I used to have first thing in the morning. Don’t worry I now have my dozen pasture raised eggs after the fast, for a late lunch!

These unique and unbelievable transcendent experiences I have gained through wingsuiting and BASE jumping have lead me to an even deeper quest to be my true self. I will honour the time spent and the life lessons learnt from this chapter of my life with the highest level of love, gratitude and appreciation. The sport has shown me to live my life through pure intention. I am currently finding this through my wellness coaching and writing. Currently my FIFO family has my focus. I have just released a book titled FIFO: There’s A Healthier Way and run a blog on Facebook. My website is coming very soon, so stay tuned! My intention is to utilise everything I have learnt through biohacking my own life and share it with FIFO workers to improve their overall wellness. I feel this can only be done by acknowledging that health has many facets, and they must be addressed holistically. Good luck with your health and life endeavours Biohackers! You only get this human experience once, so make it count. Live optimally, Stay Bulletproof and be your true self! Yours in health and wellness, Steve Hord steve@fifowellness.com #fifowellness #fifo

Dr. Ben Bikman, a biomedical scientist and pathophysiology professor, in his book "Why We Get Sick" explores why insulin resistance has become such a significant problem for human health.

Insulin is an essential hormone that regulates energy storage and usage in the body and insulin resistance is a common health disorder, affecting a large portion of the global population. Adopting a low-carbohydrate, high-fat, and high-protein diet can help reverse insulin resistance which will lead to significant improvements in health within a short time frame.

Learn more about the effective treatment of insulin resistance in this book review.
