What It Is

Sulforaphane is a plant compound found naturally in cruciferous vegetables — broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, cabbage, and watercress. It occurs at highest concentrations in young broccoli sprouts.

In whole cruciferous vegetables, sulforaphane is not present as a free compound. It exists as a precursor (glucoraphanin) that is converted to sulforaphane by an enzyme (myrosinase) when the plant tissue is cut, chewed, or otherwise damaged. This is why chopping broccoli and letting it rest before cooking is often recommended.

VitalityIQ™ Sulforaphane uses Sulfodyne® — a patented broccoli seed extract that supplies sulforaphane in its stabilised, active form rather than as a precursor. Broccoli sprout powder is also included in the formulation, providing whole-food plant material alongside the standardised extract.

The Sulfodyne® Ingredient

Sulfodyne® is a patented broccoli seed extract manufactured in France by Nutrinov (an ingredient supplier owned by Roquette). It is standardised to deliver a consistent quantity of stabilised sulforaphane per serve, rather than relying on in-body conversion from a precursor.

The two common approaches to sulforaphane supplementation are described below. Both are legitimate; they represent different technology choices.

Feature Sulfodyne® (Stabilised) Glucoraphanin + Myrosinase (Precursor)
Form Delivered Stabilised active sulforaphane Precursor requiring in-body conversion
Standardisation Patented process, batch-tested Depends on gut enzyme activity
Predictability Consistent per-serve delivery Variable conversion between individuals
Origin French-extracted broccoli seeds Broccoli sprout powder or extract

Good to Know

Why is sulforaphane stabilisation a factor?

Sulforaphane in its free form degrades in the presence of heat, moisture, and oxygen over time. In a whole broccoli sprout or piece of broccoli, sulforaphane forms fresh from its precursor at the time of consumption. In a capsule product, the compound must survive shelf life. Sulfodyne®’s patented extraction and stabilisation process is designed to solve that shelf-stability problem.

Can I just eat broccoli sprouts instead?

Yes. Fresh broccoli sprouts are one of the most concentrated dietary sources of sulforaphane precursors. Home-grown sprouts (a few days old, briefly steamed or eaten raw) are a legitimate whole-food route. The trade-off is quantity, cost, and consistency — sprouts vary significantly in sulforaphane content depending on variety, growing conditions, and age. A standardised extract gives predictable per-serve content that fresh sprouts don’t.

Which pack size should I get?

The single bottle is a good starting point. The 3-pack offers per-bottle savings for regular daily users. The 6-pack offers the largest per-bottle saving and works well as household stock or for extended personal use.
