What It Is

Zinc is an essential trace mineral required by the human body. It occurs naturally in foods such as oysters, red meat, poultry, beans, nuts, whole grains, and dairy products. Dietary intake varies widely, and some diets (particularly plant-based or grain-heavy diets) may not consistently reach recommended intake levels.

Copper is another essential trace mineral. It occurs naturally in foods such as shellfish, organ meats, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. High-dose zinc supplementation, taken over months or years, can affect the body’s copper balance — which is why zinc supplements are often paired with a small amount of copper.

This product provides both minerals together in a fixed ratio. The orotate form (mineral chelated with orotic acid) is one of several forms in which these minerals can be supplied.

Directions for Use

Take one capsule per day, preferably with food. Taking zinc with food (rather than on an empty stomach) reduces the risk of nausea, which is a common side effect when zinc is taken without food.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose unless directed by your healthcare practitioner.

Why is copper included with zinc?

Zinc and copper compete for absorption in the gut. Taking zinc on its own at higher doses over long periods can gradually reduce copper stores. Including copper alongside zinc — typically at about a 15:1 ratio — is a common formulation approach to keep the two minerals balanced.

What is the orotate form?

Orotate is a chelated form — the mineral is bound to orotic acid. It’s one of several forms in which zinc and copper can be supplied (others include picolinate, citrate, gluconate, and sulfate). Different forms have different physical properties. This product uses the orotate form.

Should I take this on an empty stomach or with food?

With food. Taking zinc without food is a common cause of nausea. A small snack or a meal containing some protein and fat is sufficient.

Which size should I buy?

The 60-capsule bottle is a 2-month supply at one capsule per day — a good starting point or for less-frequent use. The 120-capsule bottle is a 4-month supply and is more economical per capsule for daily users.
