What It Is

Brain Octane Oil is a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil containing only C8 (caprylic acid). Coconut oil naturally contains a mix of medium-chain fatty acids — C8 (~8%), C10 (~7%), C12 lauric acid (~48%), and other longer-chain fats. Bulletproof isolates the C8 fraction through fractional distillation, giving a product that is 100% C8 caprylic acid triglyceride.

Because it contains only C8 — not C10 or lauric acid — it’s a shorter, more concentrated version of what standard MCT oils provide. It has no colour, no odour, and no taste, making it easy to mix into a wide range of foods and drinks.

What’s left out: Lauric acid (C12), C10 caprate, longer-chain saturated fats, and non-triglyceride components. This is not coconut oil — it’s the C8 fraction of coconut oil.

How to Use

Because it has no flavour or colour, Brain Octane blends easily into a wide range of foods and drinks:

• In salad dressings — substitutes for other oils; whisks well with vinegar and mustard

• Cold uses — suitable for cold or lukewarm dishes; not recommended for high-heat frying (smoke point is lower than long-chain cooking oils)

Start small. If you’re new to MCT oil, begin with 1 teaspoon (5mL) per day and increase gradually over a week or two. Taking too much too quickly is a common cause of digestive discomfort — MCTs are absorbed differently from other fats, and the gut may need time to adapt.
