What This Product Is
Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are complex carbohydrates that occur naturally in human breast milk. Researchers have identified over 200 different HMO structures, which fall into two broad categories: neutral HMOs (such as 2′-FL, LNT, LNnT) and acidic / sialylated HMOs (such as 3′-SL and 6′-SL).
6′-Sialyllactose (6′-SL) is one of the sialylated HMOs. It is a trisaccharide composed of sialic acid linked to lactose, with the sialic acid attached at the 6′ position of the galactose unit. This positional linkage distinguishes 6′-SL from 3′-SL (where sialic acid is at the 3′ position).
This product contains 6′-SL as the single active ingredient, manufactured through precision fermentation. The 6′-SL produced this way is chemically identical (bio-identical) to 6′-SL naturally present in human milk, while containing no actual human milk in the product.

How HMO Prebiotics Work
A prebiotic is a food substance that the human body does not digest itself. HMOs pass through the stomach and small intestine unchanged and reach the colon, where they become available as food for certain bacterial species in the gut. Different bacteria preferentially consume different prebiotic substrates.
HMOs are not digested by human enzymes — humans lack the specific enzymes needed to break them down. They are consumed by particular bacterial species that do have these enzymes.
Neutral HMOs vs Sialylated HMOs
Human milk HMOs are broadly classified into two structural categories:

Directions for Use
Starting dose: Take half a teaspoon per day for the first few days to assess individual tolerance.

No. The 6′-SL in this product is produced through fermentation. It is chemically identical to the 6′-SL naturally found in human milk, but no human milk is used in production. The "Human Milk Oligosaccharide" terminology refers to the chemical category of the ingredient, not the source.
How is 6′-SL different from 2′-FL?
Both are HMOs, but they belong to different structural categories. 2′-FL is a neutral HMO (containing fucose, no sialic acid). 6′-SL is a sialylated HMO (containing sialic acid, which gives it an acidic character). In human milk, neutral HMOs are present in higher quantities than sialylated HMOs by mass. Both categories have distinct structural properties.

Can I take this alongside PureHMO or SuperHMO?
SuperHMO already contains 6′-SL as part of its five-HMO blend, so taking 6′-SL alongside SuperHMO would mean a higher 6′-SL dose without additional HMO diversity. Taking 6′-SL alongside PureHMO (which is 2′-FL-only) provides both a neutral and a sialylated HMO. Most users choose one product based on their preference rather than combining them.
