Every kit includes the two essential ingredients for the Bulletproof Coffee recipe:
- The Original Bulletproof Coffee (340g) — medium roast Arabica, single-origin from estate farms in Guatemala and Colombia. Available as ground or whole bean depending on the variant you choose.
- Bulletproof Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil (414mL) — 100% caprylic acid MCT oil from coconut. Flavourless, ketogenic-friendly, and the more concentrated of the two MCT products in the Bulletproof range.
If you choose one of the "+ Ghee" variants, the kit also includes:
- Primal Collective Grass-Fed Ghee — a dairy-free (clarified) alternative to butter, from grass-fed cows.

The Bulletproof Coffee Recipe
"Bulletproof Coffee" combines brewed coffee with grass-fed butter (or ghee) and MCT oil, blended to a creamy consistency. It originated as a high-fat breakfast option for people on ketogenic or low-carb dietary patterns who want to skip a traditional carbohydrate-based breakfast.
Bulletproof Coffee Preparation
- Brew 2 cups of coffee using the method of your choice (grind first if you chose whole beans)
- Combine with 2 tablespoons of unsalted grass-fed butter (or the grass-fed ghee if you chose a "+ Ghee" variant)
- Add 2 tablespoons of Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil
- Blend in a high-speed blender (or use an Aerolatte® frother) until a creamy head of foam forms
- Pour and drink while hot
Start small on the MCT oil. If you’re new to MCT oil, begin with 1 teaspoon per day and work up to the full 2 tablespoons over a week or two. Taking too much too quickly is a common cause of digestive discomfort.
Good to Know
Ground or whole bean coffee?
Ground is ready to brew — convenient, no grinder needed. Whole beans stay fresher longer because the intact bean protects volatile aromatic compounds from oxidation. If you have a coffee grinder and want the freshest cup, pick whole beans. If you don’t, ground works.
Butter or ghee?
Both work. Grass-fed butter is the traditional Bulletproof Coffee ingredient. Grass-fed ghee is clarified butter with the milk solids removed, so it’s dairy-free by composition — useful if you’re avoiding dairy or lactose. Nutritionally similar. If you’re not sure which you want, choose one of the "+ Ghee" variants to get ghee included so you can compare.
How long does the kit last?
The 340g coffee bag makes roughly 20–25 cups of Bulletproof Coffee. The 414mL MCT bottle is about 28 servings at 2 tablespoons each. So the coffee runs out slightly before the MCT oil. Most people re-order coffee more often than MCT oil.
Do I have to use Bulletproof-brand coffee?
No — the Bulletproof Coffee recipe works with any decent coffee. That said, the coffee included in this kit is Bulletproof’s Original Blend — a medium roast Arabica from estate farms in Guatemala and Colombia. It’s the coffee the recipe was designed around, so it’s a sensible starting point.
Is there a cheaper starter option?
The MCT Edition Starter Kit uses Bulletproof MCT Oil (a C8+C10 blend) instead of Brain Octane (100% C8), at a lower price point. Same coffee, same recipe — slightly different MCT composition. If you’re primarily curious about the recipe itself and want to keep the cost down, that’s an option.
Although the taste of filtered coffee takes getting used to I definitely felt an energised caffeine buzz that lasted longer than the usual cappuccino I became accustomed to.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my Bulletproof mornings. Together with the Brain Octane and Ghee, I'm adding cinnamon, a splash of whole organic milk and sometimes a little raw honey to my coffee. Sometimes I'll just have the coffee, it's delicious any which way. I'm beginning to think I'm now spoiled for other coffees - and I'm ok with that!
I don’t drink coffee at all because I don’t like the taste but have been trying to find one I can bare as I fast regularly . Tried so many brands with no luck. Then I watched a podcast on bulletproof coffee . Using there bulletproof brand coffee , mct oil and ghee in a blender . To my surprise it was lovely and now helps me extend my fasts.
