About Collagen
Collagen is a structural protein naturally found in animal tissues. The word derives from the Greek kolla (glue), reflecting collagen’s historical use as an adhesive in traditional crafts before its modern biological role was understood.
As a protein, collagen is composed of long chains of amino acids. 28 different types of collagen have been identified in human and animal biology, with Type I, II, III and IV being the most abundant. Type I collagen alone accounts for approximately 90% of the collagen in the human body.
This product supplies Type I and Type III collagen from bovine (cattle) hides — the same combination most prevalent in human connective tissues.
Hydrolysed Collagen vs Gelatine
Two distinct forms of collagen are common in food and supplement products:
- Gelatine — a partially-broken-down form of collagen produced by heating animal connective tissue. Gelatine gels and clumps when added to liquids.
- Hydrolysed collagen (collagen peptides) — collagen that has been further broken down through enzymatic hydrolysis into shorter peptide chains. The resulting peptides have a lower molecular weight (less than 5,000 Daltons), do not gel, and dissolve readily in both cold and warm liquids.
This product is fully hydrolysed, which makes it dissolve cleanly in liquids without clumping. The hydrolysis process is what distinguishes collagen peptide powders from traditional gelatine.
Amino Acid Profile
Collagen has a distinctive amino acid profile that differs from other protein sources. This product’s amino acid composition is:
| Glycine | 23% |
| Proline | 13.7% |
| Hydroxyproline | 12.3% |
| Glutamic Acid | 10% |
| Alanine | 8.4% |
| Arginine | 7.7% |
Glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline are particularly characteristic of collagen and are found in lower proportions in other protein sources.
Sourcing
The collagen in this product is sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle in Argentina and Brazil. South American pasture-raised cattle production is recognised globally for grass-fed beef quality.
The bovine hides are processed into hydrolysed collagen peptides by leading collagen ingredient suppliers, then shipped to Sydney for packaging in a GMP-certified facility.
The finished product is glyphosate-free and tested by an independent third-party laboratory for purity and contaminants. The latest batch test results are available via the link above.

Good to Know
Does it taste like anything?
No — hydrolysed collagen peptides are virtually neutral in taste and odour. The powder dissolves cleanly without altering the flavour of your beverage.
Will it gel or clump?
No. Unlike gelatine (which gels when added to liquids), hydrolysed collagen peptides have been processed to reduce their molecular weight below 5,000 Daltons. This prevents gelling and allows the powder to dissolve in both cold and warm liquids.
Why hydrolysed rather than standard collagen?
Hydrolysed collagen has been broken down enzymatically into shorter peptide chains. This makes it dissolve cleanly in liquids (whereas standard collagen would gel like gelatine) and easier to incorporate into beverages and recipes.
What does “Type I & III” mean?
Of the 28 different collagen types identified in biology, Type I is the most abundant in the human body (~90%) and Type III is the second-most abundant. These are the two types found in connective tissues, skin and bones. This product supplies both forms.
Why bovine rather than marine or porcine collagen?
Collagen products are available from several animal sources including bovine (cattle), porcine (pig), and marine (fish). Bovine collagen is the most widely-used form and is well-suited for kosher and halal certification when sourced and processed appropriately. This product is both kosher and halal certified.
Can I cook or bake with it?
Yes. The hydrolysed form remains stable at cooking temperatures and can be incorporated into soups, broths, baked goods, smoothies and other recipes without affecting the flavour or texture of the finished dish.
