However, if you'd rather skip the butter, there is an easy way to make a delicious vegan variation of this keto coffee by replacing the butter or ghee with a prebiotic fibre like Bulletproof InnerFuel. It's by no means the perfect substitute. Butter or ghee provides a lot more fat and specifically, short chain fatty acids. But it will serve the purpose to create the right creamy-frothy texture. InnerFuel also provides gut health and immune support. This prebiotic supplement feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut to keep your microbiome thriving. It's unflavoured and mixes easily.

Another alternative or addition is Cacao Butter. This is delicious! chocolatey option. Although it is a high Omega-6 fat relative to Omega-3s: 28:1. It's been postulated that the ideal ratio is closer to 1:1.

Vegan Bulletproof Coffee still contains Brain Octane (the most ketogenic of MCTs) or regular MCT Oil, which will provide energy to your body, help you last longer without consuming animal products, and without breaking your ketosis.

How to make Vegan Bulletproof Coffee?

Grass-fed butter or ghee, used in the original recipe, can be easily replaced with plant-based alternatives such as MCT Oil or Coconut Oil.

MCT Oil is Medium Chain Triglycerides that are a rapidly absorbed source of energy that boost immunity and nutrient absorption. Triglycerides' shorter length makes them more easily digested and a great alternative to long-chain fatty acids found in other foods.

Most commonly, MCT oil is extracted from coconut oil. However, these fats are also found in palm oil and dairy.

Some brands of MCT oils contain Lauric Acid (C-12) however, the body treats it more like a long-chain triglyceride. This means you do not benefit from the infusion of ketones which is the main reason most people buy MCT oil.

Other less purified brands may also contain some C-6 MCT which can cause gastrointestinal distress, even at very low quantities. Bulletproof MCT contains only C-8 and C-10, while Brain Octane oil contains only C-8.

Bulletproof MCT Oil is flavourless and can be used not only to make vegan Bulletproof coffee but also in other drinks, smoothies, and even drizzled over salads.

Why add MCT Oil to your coffee?

MCT Oil is a supplemental oil that acts as a substitute for some of the usual oil in your meals.

While it should not be used as a replacement for all of your fat intake, MCT Oil can boast several health benefits:

  • Enhance cognitive function: C8 MCT Oil rapidly and efficiently converts into brain-boosting, fat-burning ketone energy. Ketones power your brain and can't be stored as fat, unlike carbs and sugar

  • Provide energy: Easy-to-digest caprylic acid fuels your cells more efficiently than coconut oil does. C8 MCT converts into energizing ketones that start powering your mind and body within minutes, with no cravings or energy crashes.

  • Promote weight loss: Consuming MCT oil may influence the feeling of fullness, so you can go longer periods without eating. According to the study, 2 tbsp of MCT oil as a part of breakfast leads to eating less food for lunch compared to taking coconut oil.
  • Boost workout: Taking the MCT oil before exercise may help you use more fat instead of carbs for energy. According to the study, recreational athletes who ate foods containing MCTs for two weeks could do longer sessions of high-intensity exercises.
