What is R-1,3-butanediol?
R-1,3-butanediol is a small organic alcohol used as the carrier portion of the ketone monoester. The ester bond links D-BHB to this molecule. In the body, the ester is hydrolysed, releasing both D-BHB and the butanediol; the butanediol is metabolised by the liver into additional BHB.
