What This Product Is

KetoneAid Ketone Shots is a ready-to-drink beverage containing a D-BHB ketone monoester. Each 60mL bottle contains 5g of the ester, labelled as 2 servings of 2.5g each.

The ketone monoester in this product is D-beta-hydroxybutyrate (D-BHB) chemically bonded to R-1,3-butanediol. When consumed, the ester is hydrolysed in the body, releasing D-BHB — one of the three ketone bodies the body itself produces during ketosis (a metabolic state achieved through prolonged fasting or strict carbohydrate restriction).

"Exogenous ketones" refers to ketone bodies consumed from external sources (a drink), as distinct from "endogenous ketones" which the body produces internally from fat. Both reach the bloodstream as the same chemical compounds.

About Ketone Esters

Exogenous ketone products generally fall into three categories:

Category Composition
Ketone esters (this product) D-BHB bonded to butanediol via ester linkage
Ketone salts D-BHB or DL-BHB bonded to mineral cations (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium)
Ketone free acid Beta-hydroxybutyric acid (unbonded form)

KetoneAid Ketone Shots contains the ester form only, with no salts or free acid added. The earlier KE1 Lite product (now discontinued) contained a blend of all three; this product is a reformulation focused on ester only with a more palatable taste profile.

Ingredients (per Bottle)

D-BHB Monoester 5g (D-beta-hydroxybutyrate bonded to R-1,3-butanediol)
Monkfruit Extract Natural sweetener (zero calorie)
Inulin Soluble fibre, contributes to texture and mild sweetness
Natural Flavours Mild peachy flavour
Sodium 6mg per bottle
Potassium 16mg per bottle
Potassium Sorbate Preservative

Not in the formula: stevia, allulose, sucralose, added sugar, caffeine, alcohol.

Where Ketone Shots Fits in the KetoneAid Range

KetoneAid produces ketone ester beverages at different concentrations. The trade-off is between taste palatability (more dilute = smoother) and cost-per-gram (more concentrated = better value):

Product Concentration Format Best For
Ketone Shots (this product) ~8% 60mL ready-to-drink Convenience, taste
KE4 Concentrate ~50% 60mL concentrate Value per gram (mix yourself)

If taste isn’t a priority, KE4 concentrate offers a lower cost per gram of ketone ester. Ketone Shots are designed for users who prefer a ready-to-drink format with a more palatable peachy flavour.

Directions for Use

Shake well before opening. The label is structured as 2 servings of 2.5g each per 60mL bottle.

Start small. If you’ve never used a ketone ester product before, begin with half a bottle (30mL) to assess individual tolerance.

Drink directly from the bottle, or dilute into water for a milder taste.

Refer to the product label for full guidance. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Ketone ester beverages can have a distinctive taste; the more dilute, the milder.

Good to Know

What does it taste like?

Ketone esters have a distinctive taste that some users describe as similar to nail polish remover or a strong organic chemical note. The Ketone Shots formulation is more dilute and sweetened with monkfruit and inulin, giving it a peachy flavour that’s more palatable than the concentrate. It’s still a strongly-flavoured beverage — not a typical fruit drink.

Why is there inulin in the formula?

Inulin is a soluble plant fibre used as a texture and sweetness component in the formula. Note: Inulin is a fructan and is classified as a FODMAP. People with IBS or fructan intolerance may experience digestive symptoms (bloating, gas) from inulin-containing products.

What is R-1,3-butanediol?

R-1,3-butanediol is a small organic alcohol used as the carrier portion of the ketone monoester. The ester bond links D-BHB to this molecule. In the body, the ester is hydrolysed, releasing both D-BHB and the butanediol; the butanediol is metabolised by the liver into additional BHB. Important: 1,3-butanediol is distinct from 1,4-butanediol, which is a controlled substance precursor. The product contains the 1,3 form only.

Will this put me into ketosis?

Drinking a ketone ester raises blood ketone levels transiently — this is sometimes referred to as "exogenous ketosis" but is distinct from nutritional ketosis, the metabolic state achieved through prolonged fasting or a strict ketogenic diet. The two are different physiological states.

Is it suitable for diabetics?

People with diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2) should not use exogenous ketone products without consulting their endocrinologist or treating doctor first. Exogenous ketones can affect blood glucose regulation and may interact with diabetes medications, particularly insulin and SGLT2 inhibitors. Risk of ketoacidosis in Type 1 diabetes is a particular concern.

Is this product suitable for infants or children?

No. This product is formulated as an adult dietary supplement and is intended for adult use only. Not for use in infants, toddlers, or children.

Is this a meal replacement?

No. "Meal replacement" is a specific regulated food category in Australia under FSANZ Standard 2.9.3 requiring particular nutritional composition. This product is a ketone ester beverage with minimal calorie content and is not formulated, marketed, or labelled as a meal replacement. Do not use as a substitute for meals.
